When Robbins
Gunite is hired to do any type of structural construction or repair, we
assess the situation and employ several different techniques to
accomplish the tasks at hand.
Common Terminology:
Gunite:
Gunite is a dry
mixture of cement and aggregate that is combined with water at the
nozzle, as it is sprayed through a gun at high pressure. To give it
strength and durability and so it has a place to adhere, gunite is
usually applied over steel mesh or steel rebar. In foundation repairs,
gunite can be shot directly over damaged, cracked concrete and crumbling
rubble walls, leaving a smooth, even surface.
Rip-rap
(Seawalls):
One of the
things that we do to stabilize damaged seawalls is support them with
riprap. Seawalls could have developed cracks over years of wear under
the water level. Rip-rap consists of bags of dry sand and cement. These
bags are placed wherever cracks are found and are then pressure grouted
with more cement to stabilize the integrity of the wall.
Spalling:
Spalling is the technical term for deteriorating or failing concrete
due to age and/or structural stresses on seawalls, foundations, and
other such structures. These irregularities can be corrected with the
application of gunite.
Rebar:
Steel rods that help support structures such as seawalls and
foundations. These bars can usually be found inside poured concrete
members.
